About the school
The National School of Arts and Sciences is one of two national schools in the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, Law and Business. The National School is based on two distinct campuses in Fremantle and Sydney. The School of Arts and Sciences delivers a practical, ethical and industry-focused education in diverse areas of study such as the liberal arts, communications and media, counselling and science, with a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs on offer.
About the role
The School of Arts & Sciences plans to commence national delivery of Social Work through the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) (MSWQ) program in 2025. This program has been developed in accordance with AASW accreditation requirements.
Social Work aligns with the University’s strategic goals and mission and complements the existing suite of disciplines focused on wellbeing, mental health, and social sciences, including counselling, psychology, sociology, social justice, political science, law, ethics, health sciences, behavioural sciences, Aboriginal Studies, and allied health.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) program effectively, including teaching and research within your area of specialization.
- Ensure compliance with AASW standards and accreditation requirements.
- Collaborate with Faculty, School academics, and professional staff to provide high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
- Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, and course materials, acting as a subject coordinator where required.
- Engage with students through consultation, monitor feedback, and oversee field education placements to maintain program effectiveness.
- Contribute to accreditation processes, internal/external reporting, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- Doctorate in Social Work (PhD or professional doctorate), meeting AASW and TEQSA requirements for teaching at Master’s level (AQF 9).
- Completion of an AASW-accredited program or equivalent overseas qualification recognized by AASW, with current AASW membership.
- Ability to deliver courses in the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) program and contribute to teaching, research, and scholarly activities within the discipline.
- Industry, clinical, or fieldwork experience, with strong understanding of AASW standards and accreditation framework, and commitment to ethical social work practice.
- Experience in coordinating social work field education placements and contributing to field education within Social Work programs.
- Experience supervising HDR students to completion is highly desirable.
